Disney World will welcome a new immersive experience when Monstropolis, a themed land based on the beloved film “Monsters, Inc.,” opens at Hollywood Studios in 2027. The announcement came during the D23 event on Saturday, with executives expressing enthusiasm about bringing the animated world to life for visitors.
The new land will invite guests to explore the monster city where they can interact with characters, sample specialty cuisine, and discover iconic locations from the films. According to Disney’s creative team, the experience represents a unique collision of two worlds as humans and monsters come together through laughter rather than fear.
A centerpiece of Monstropolis will be Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster, which accelerates guests 40 feet skyward in just four seconds. The ride will transport visitors into the laugh floor where Mike’s inventions capture both screams and laughter. Complementing the thrill ride will be an innovative theatrical experience featuring high-definition panels combined with live characters, enhanced through collaborations with Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic. Composer Randy Newman has created an original song exclusively for the attraction, marking his first composition written specifically for a Disney theme park.
Imaginers emphasized that technology will serve the storytelling, deepening emotional connections with characters while creating unforgettable moments for visitors stepping into the monsters’ world.
