Todd Snyder is marking 15 years since launching his menswear brand with a celebration during New York Fashion Week that doubles as the debut of a new collaboration with Lagavulin whisky. The designer, who previously held positions at Ralph Lauren, Gap Inc., and J. Crew, built his reputation on refined tailoring and attention to detail that has attracted a roster of prominent entertainers.
Snyder recalls the pivotal moment when celebrity interest in his work first emerged. In 2013, just two years after founding his company when the team consisted of only five employees, an e-commerce staff member discovered that actor Ryan Gosling had placed an order. The discovery highlighted how closely the small operation monitored incoming sales. Since then, numerous actors including Matt Bomer, Daniel Radcliffe, Brendan Fraser, and Sterling K. Brown have worn his designs at major events, with stylists praising the brand’s balance of vintage-inspired pieces and contemporary American aesthetics.
The 15th anniversary celebration features a campaign for the Snyder-Lagavulin partnership starring “The Gilded Age” actor Ben Ahlers, who was shot at Lagavulin’s Scottish distillery. The two discovered a shared Iowa connection that bonded them creatively, with Ahlers noting how Snyder’s success demonstrated that roots outside major fashion hubs need not limit achievement.
