The UW-Eau Claire Blugolds football team remained undefeated Saturday, defeating Carroll University 34-17 at Schneider Stadium in Waukesha. The victory marked the team’s second consecutive win to start the season.
The Blugolds demonstrated offensive dominance early, scoring 21 consecutive points during their first three scoring drives. The team accumulated 267 total rushing yards while the defense generated four turnovers, including two interceptions and two recovered fumbles. Sophomore running back Paxton Rothmeier led the offensive charge, carrying the ball 21 times for 179 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 18 additional yards. Rothmeier’s most explosive plays came in the second quarter, when he scored touchdowns on runs of 33 and 64 yards.
Junior quarterback Ayden Helder completed 12 of 27 passing attempts for 186 yards and one touchdown while adding 40 rushing yards on six carries. Defensively, linebacker Aidan Drost recorded four tackles and two sacks to anchor the Blugolds’ strong performance.
On the volleyball court, UW-Eau Claire completed a sweep at the Sonnentag Center, defeating both Coe and St. Catherine in straight sets Saturday. The Blugolds improved their record to 5-1 overall. Against St. Catherine, Brynlee Major contributed 15 kills while setters Alex Kiebel and Hannah Thole distributed 30 and 20 assists respectively. Three Blugolds earned all-tournament recognition for their efforts.
