ASA concluded their 2026 Série D campaign as runners-up on Sunday, falling short in the tournament’s final after a hard-fought competition. The Alagoas club drew 1-1 with Uberlândia in the second leg at Parque do Sabiá, unable to overcome a 2-0 deficit from the opening match held in Arapiraca.
Despite the defeat, ASA leadership expressed satisfaction with their achievement. President Rogério Siqueira highlighted the significance of the runner-up finish, noting that the club’s return to Série C after a nine-year absence represents a major milestone. Siqueira emphasized that competing in Série D demands exceptional resilience and that the team has every reason to celebrate their accomplishment.
Siqueira also commended the CBF for implementing substantial improvements to the tournament structure. The 2026 edition featured unprecedented growth, expanding from 64 to 96 participating teams and increasing the total number of matches from 510 to 610. Prize distribution also grew significantly, with total payouts rising from R$ 40 million to R$ 65.5 million, along with the introduction of promotion playoffs.
Felipe Feijó, president of the Alagoas Football Federation, praised ASA’s consistent performance throughout the season. He acknowledged that while the championship prize eluded the team, their promotion to Série C in 2027 fulfills the primary objective. Feijó expressed pride in securing another affiliated club for the upcoming competitive level.
