A federal judge has dismissed the remaining claims in a lawsuit filed by a wardrobe stylist against Lizzo’s touring company. Asha Daniels had alleged she experienced a hostile work environment while working on the singer’s 2023 European tour, claiming she faced racist and fat phobic comments, sexual harassment, and disability discrimination. U.S. District Judge Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha ruled that Daniels failed to demonstrate that employees engaged in conduct showing general hostility toward women in the workplace.
The judge determined that while the alleged incidents were inappropriate and unprofessional, they fell outside the scope of protection under Title VII employment law, characterizing them as ordinary workplace problems. The ruling also found that an injury Daniels sustained when a wardrobe manager rolled a clothing rack over her foot did not meet the legal standard for disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Daniels’ attorney, Ron Zambrano, expressed disappointment with the decision, stating that the court improperly evaluated evidence that should have been reviewed by a jury. He argued that the ruling failed to consider the cumulative impact of alleged sexually charged comments and images within the work environment. Lizzo, who was previously dismissed as a defendant, has denied all claims. A separate lawsuit filed by three of the singer’s former dancers alleging sexual harassment remains pending.
