A woman accused of stalking musician Lindsey Buckingham has been declared mentally unfit to stand trial following a psychiatric evaluation. Michelle Dick, 55, appeared in Los Angeles County Mental Health Court on Thursday, where Judge Robert S. Harrison determined she lacks the competency to proceed with her case. The judge also ruled that medication would be medically appropriate for treating her psychiatric condition.
Dick faces six felony charges and one misdemeanor stemming from allegations that span several years. Prosecutors claim she assaulted the former Fleetwood Mac guitarist with a vehicle, vandalized his Mercedes-Benz, and threw an unidentified substance at him during an incident in March, despite an active restraining order. She was arrested in Indiana in April after allegedly confronting Buckingham in Santa Monica, California.
The case will return to court on August 27 for a hearing to determine next steps. The court will evaluate whether attempting to restore Dick’s competency serves the interests of justice or whether she qualifies for a mental health diversion program. Such a program could potentially lead to dismissal of charges if she completes treatment successfully. Court documents indicate Dick has claimed Buckingham is her biological father during previous law enforcement encounters.
