Laura Dern has been selected to deliver the Laudatio speech honoring George Clooney at the upcoming Venice Film Festival. Clooney will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement during the festival’s opening ceremony on Wednesday, September 2. The distinction recognizes his distinguished career spanning acting, directing, and producing.
Clooney’s achievement places him among an elite group, as he is one of only three individuals to have received Oscar nominations across six different categories throughout his career, including best picture, director, lead actor, supporting actor, and both screenplay categories. The Venice Film Festival is also recognizing Clooney’s commitment to social and humanitarian causes, which have made him a prominent figure in the entertainment industry beyond his film work.
Dern brings considerable experience to the role, having previously presented the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement to David Lynch in 2006. The acclaimed actress has attended Venice multiple times with her own films and recently appeared alongside Clooney in Noah Baumbach’s “Jay Kelly,” which competed at the festival last year. Clooney is a frequent presence at Venice, having premiered several films there over the decades.
The 83rd edition of the Venice Film Festival runs from September 2 through September 12.
