The standout moment came on the 16th hole when Cottam sank an eagle from 108 yards out, propelling him toward his historic round.
Cottam’s exceptional performance was built on a hot start, as he accumulated six birdies across seven consecutive holes to post a 29 on the front nine. He maintained his momentum through the back nine, playing the final four holes in four-under par. Despite an off-the-green approach on the 18th hole, Cottam managed to salvage a par to complete his scorecard.
The accomplishment marks the second consecutive year that Uplands Golf Club has witnessed a sub-60 round. A.J. Ewart previously shot 59 at the same venue during last year’s Victoria Open. Cottam’s 58 now stands as the sixth sub-60 round recorded on the PGA Tour Americas since 2024, with five such rounds already occurring across various professional tours during 2026 alone.
When reflecting on his extraordinary day, Cottam expressed astonishment at his performance, noting that shooting such a low score was far from his expectations when he began his round.
