Jared Kushner, the U.S. President’s son-in-law and Middle East envoy, met with Hamas leadership in Egypt on Sunday to advance a Gaza reconstruction plan that has faced significant resistance. The gathering brought together Hamas political leader Khalil al-Hayya, Egyptian intelligence officials, and representatives from Qatar and Turkey to discuss the administration’s latest peace proposal for the region.
During the meeting, Kushner emphasized the importance of Hamas disarmament and renouncing future governance responsibilities in Gaza, according to diplomatic sources. Hamas representatives reaffirmed their support for the overall agreement while negotiations continued on implementing specific terms. The talks also included Trump’s peace representative and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who serves on the administration’s Board of Peace.
The initiative arrives as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly rejected key aspects of Trump’s proposal, calling it unacceptable. Meanwhile, military operations in Gaza have continued despite a ceasefire agreement established in October 2025, with recent Israeli airstrikes resulting in additional Palestinian casualties. Hamas has indicated its agreement depends on Israel first fulfilling its commitments, including troop withdrawal and cessation of military actions.
