The prestigious Criterion Collection has announced that the Netflix sensation “KPop Demon Hunters” will receive a special release in November, making it available for preorder across multiple formats. The film will be distributed on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD, featuring a newly commissioned cover design by illustrator Ami Thompson.
The inclusion marks a notable addition to Criterion’s catalog, as the studio typically focuses on independent and arthouse productions rather than mainstream streaming blockbusters. “KPop Demon Hunters” achieved record-breaking viewership on Netflix and became a cultural phenomenon, though its theatrical run was limited. The release will include a newly restored 4K digital master with Dolby Atmos sound, along with extensive bonus content such as a documentary, video essays, and lyric videos.
Much of the film’s widespread appeal stems from its soundtrack, particularly the song “Golden,” which dominated the Billboard Hot 100 chart for eight weeks and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. The upcoming Criterion edition will arrive on November 3rd, joining other acclaimed films in that month’s slate including David Lynch’s “Wild at Heart” and Sofia Coppola’s “Marie Antoinette.”
