Kid Cudi and Kanye West have reconciled after years of tension, reuniting on stage during West’s Chicago concert on Friday night. The two longtime collaborators performed together for the first time in seven years, delivering a trio of collaborative hits including “Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1,” “Ghost Town,” and “Pursuit of Happiness” to conclude the evening. West’s two-night hometown performance also featured numerous other surprise guest appearances.
The rappers had publicly ended their relationship in 2022 when West removed Cudi’s contributions from the album “Donda 2” following tensions related to Cudi’s friendship with Pete Davidson, who was dating West’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian at the time. Cudi previously stated in an interview that reconciliation seemed unlikely, emphasizing that he stood by his words.
West’s career had suffered significantly amid his well-documented antisemitic remarks and controversial statements. Earlier this year, he published an apology in the Wall Street Journal, attributing his outbursts to mental health struggles. Following the concert, Cudi publicly defended his decision to perform with West, explaining on social media that they shared nearly two decades of artistic collaboration and personal connection. He stated that West had genuinely apologized and that “everyone deserves some grace” when addressing family relationships and past conflicts.
