Two major Indian film production companies have announced a strategic collaboration, with their first project being “Daayra,” a crime thriller featuring actors Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Junglee Pictures, known for developing narrative-focused films, has joined forces with Pen Studios, which brings significant production capabilities and theatrical distribution reach across India. The partnership leverages each company’s distinct strengths to create compelling content for audiences.
“Daayra,” directed by Meghna Gulzar, draws inspiration from real-world events and explores themes of guilt, legal boundaries, and justice through the lens of a crime and its consequences. The film examines the tension between formal law enforcement and public perceptions of accountability. The movie is scheduled for theatrical release on September 18.
Both studios bring impressive track records to this venture. Junglee Pictures has produced acclaimed films including “Raazi” and “Talvar,” while Pen Studios has supported major releases like “Gangubai Kathiawadi” and “RRR,” demonstrating expertise in reaching international audiences. Industry leaders from each company expressed enthusiasm about combining their creative and distribution capabilities, suggesting this partnership could establish a lasting relationship producing multiple future projects.
The collaboration arrives as India’s film industry experiences strong momentum, with Hindi-language cinema achieving record-breaking revenues in recent years and maintaining robust performance into 2026.
