Txintxua Films, the production company behind the acclaimed Netflix series “Intimacy,” has joined Mexican filmmaker Ernesto Martínez Bucio’s upcoming second feature film. The project, titled “This Is the Memory I Would Like to Have of Mom,” represents a co-production between the Basque company and Mexican outfit Colectivo Colmena. The film has been selected as one of fifteen projects for San Sebastián’s Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum.
Martínez Bucio gained recognition for his debut feature “The Devil Smokes,” which earned the Berlinale Perspectives Award for best first feature. His new film, written by Karen Plata who collaborated with him on his debut, follows a 27-year-old woman named Marina who confronts mortality after being diagnosed with cancer while grieving her mother’s death. The narrative centers on how Marina uses audio recordings and fabricated memories as her family navigates their collective loss.
The director characterizes the film as an examination of grief and how family memory is constructed collectively. Currently in development, the project previously received screenplay funding support from Spain’s ICAA Film Board in 2025. Txintxua producers described their involvement as a natural partnership stemming from longstanding relationships with the filmmakers, who relocated to the Basque Country years ago.
Both production companies bring substantial festival credentials to the endeavor. Colectivo Colmena, established in 2015, has produced films that premiered at major festivals including Locarno and Venice, while Txintxua has established an international presence in both film and television production.
