Jordan Pope has signed with Texas A&M basketball after receiving a fifth year of eligibility, marking an unexpected move for the former Longhorn guard. Pope spent two seasons at Texas following his time at Oregon State, averaging 13.1 points per game during the 2025-26 season while serving as the team’s starting point guard.
Pope’s additional year of eligibility resulted from a California court injunction, which granted a fifth season to numerous collegiate athletes nationwide. This legal action addressed a gap in the NCAA’s newly implemented age-based eligibility model, which had excluded the class of 2022 recruits from receiving the additional year that newer players would automatically receive.
Texas coach Sean Miller previously indicated the program lacked roster space for Pope following the House v. NCAA settlement, which increased men’s basketball scholarship limits from 13 to 15 while capping total roster size at 15 players. Pope’s departure to the rival Aggies comes as Texas A&M aims to finalize its roster following the addition of the transfer guard.
