An animated comedy that generated significant buzz at this year’s Cannes Film Festival has assembled a notable English-language voice cast. Jordan Firstman, whose directorial debut “Club Kid” also premiered at Cannes, will lead the cast of “Jim Queen” alongside Matteo Lane, known for his Broadway performance in “Chicago.” The pair will voice the film’s main characters, Jim and Lucien, in what creators Marco Nguyen and Nicolas Athané describe as a gay-focused animated comedy.
The supporting voice cast includes Emmy-nominated television personality Nicole Byer, performer John Cameron Mitchell, drag artist Bob the Drag Queen, and actress Wendie Malick. Global Constellation plans to present the English-language version to North American distributors during the upcoming Toronto Film Festival, as the film continues to build momentum following its Cannes premiere.
“Jim Queen” has already achieved commercial success internationally. The film opened at number three at the French box office in June and has accumulated over 370,000 admissions and $3 million domestically. The story follows a gym-focused character navigating identity and community when a virus threatens the gay scene in Paris. The film will continue expanding to additional territories worldwide, though U.S. distribution rights remain under negotiation.
