The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has unveiled a new single titled “It’s Time,” marking the third track released ahead of his upcoming fifth studio album. The upbeat rock composition will appear on The Age of Everything, scheduled for October release through BMG Records.
Marr describes the song as his approach to addressing global concerns while maintaining optimistic resistance against cynicism and dishonesty. The accompanying music video was captured during what stands as the largest headlining performance of Marr’s solo career, held at Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl venue earlier this year.
The Age of Everything comprises ten tracks and represents what Marr characterizes as his most emotionally purifying work to date. The album was composed in London, refined through live performances across the American East Coast, and ultimately recorded in Manchester. Prior singles “Spin” and “Ophelia” have already been shared with audiences.
Beyond the album release, Marr will also debut a newly illustrated and reformatted edition of his memoir Set the Boy Free on October 22. This enhanced version will include previously unreleased archival photographs, a fresh introduction, a tribute to deceased Smiths bassist Andy Rourke, and a foreword contribution from Noel Gallagher.
