He returned for the outdoor motocross series and remained competitive despite persistent pain, capturing four race wins and finishing second overall to his brother Hunter Lawrence. The injury worsened considerably during the season finale at Ironman Raceway, where he aggravated the ankle during the opening moto and experienced renewed pain and instability.
In a statement, Lawrence explained his decision to prioritize long-term health over competing in the playoffs. He acknowledged struggling through the summer while pursuing the outdoor championship but determined that his ankle required proper treatment to restore full function. American Honda’s racing management expressed full support for his choice, emphasizing the importance of ensuring his recovery for his future career.
