Council Rock South secured a narrow victory over Perkiomen Valley on Friday evening, winning 13-10 in Week 2 action at Walt Snyder Stadium in Newtown. Senior standout Brody Walker proved instrumental in the Golden Hawks’ success, recording two touchdowns for the home team. One of Walker’s scoring plays was particularly memorable, as he returned a blocked field goal 79 yards for a touchdown.
The Golden Hawks entered the contest riding momentum from an impressive season-opening performance. In their first game, Council Rock South dominated Hatboro-Horsham with a 42-0 shutout, during which six different players found the end zone and the defense held the Hatters to fewer than 80 yards of total offense. The team built on its success from last year, when it finished 10-2 and captured the SOL Continental Conference championship.
Perkiomen Valley struggled to gain traction in their early season efforts. The Panthers opened with a 27-7 loss to Springfield-Delco, a step down from their 6-5 record from the previous season. Despite the setback, Perkiomen Valley remained competitive against the Golden Hawks, keeping the contest close throughout.
Both teams look ahead to next week’s matchups. Council Rock South will host Pennridge on September 10 at 7 p.m., while Perkiomen Valley welcomes Downingtown East on the same date and time.
