Janelle Rodriguez, a key figure in developing NBC News’ streaming service NBC News Now, has announced her departure from the network. In a memo to staff, Rodriguez indicated she has decided to pursue new opportunities, stating that the timing feels appropriate for her next chapter.
Rodriguez joined NBC News in 2015 after serving as a senior executive at CNN. During her tenure, she spearheaded the launch of NBC News Now and oversaw the transition of the anchor position on “NBC Nightly News” from Lester Holt to Tom Llamas. She also helped establish “NBC News Daily,” a daytime news program that expanded to multiple platforms including the streaming service and local NBC station schedules.
The departure comes roughly a year after Rodriguez was reassigned to report to Rebecca Blumenstein, NBC News’ president of editorial, marking a shift in her organizational standing. Sources indicate she faced further potential changes to her responsibilities before deciding to leave. The network acknowledged her contributions, with Blumenstein praising her role in building NBC News Now into a leading streaming news service.
Catherine Kim, a veteran NBC News producer, will assume expanded responsibilities overseeing editorial, content, and NBC News Now. Additional staff realignments include Matt Carluccio taking on broader coverage oversight and Matt Frucci, executive producer of “Nightly,” now reporting directly to Blumenstein.
