Apple’s foldable iPhone Ultra is expected to debut at the company’s “Surprise and Shine” event on September 9, according to information shared by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in a recent interview. The device has been the subject of industry speculation for years, and insiders anticipate its announcement alongside or shortly after the iPhone 18 Pro, potentially arriving by September 19.
The upcoming foldable device is reported to feature a 5.5-inch exterior display and a 7.8-inch interior screen, powered by Apple’s latest Pro chip and modem technology. The device will support MagSafe compatibility and carry a minimum price tag of $2,000. Samsung is manufacturing the flexible display component for the device, and Gurman notes that the screen crease will be visible but comparable to other recent Samsung foldable models.
Durability appears to be a priority for Apple’s entry into the foldable market. The company is targeting the same ruggedness standards as its traditional iPhone lineup, which could position the Ultra ahead of competitors if it achieves the IP68 dust and water-resistance rating currently held only by Google and Honor foldables. Additionally, iOS 27 will introduce new capabilities including multitasking features, split-screen functionality, and cross-app drag-and-drop operations similar to existing foldable devices.
