Arkansas football held its first scrimmage of fall camp on Sunday, with the offense displaying impressive playmaking ability throughout the contest. The team ran more than 130 plays at their home stadium, with quarterbacks KJ Jackson and AJ Hill splitting time with the first-team offense while competing for the starting position.
Wide receiver Chris Marshall emerged as a standout performer, hauling in a 34-yard touchdown reception from Jackson and recording a 96-yard catch from Hill that set up a rushing touchdown. Head coach Ryan Silverfield noted that Marshall’s statistical performance matched the eye test. Both quarterbacks showed competence, with Jackson leading three 75-yard touchdown drives while Hill orchestrated two scoring series. Jackson connected with multiple receivers including tight end Ty Lockwood, while freshman Hank Hendrix also led scoring drives despite a slow start.
The defense generated eight sacks during the scrimmage, though Silverfield emphasized that some occurred against lower-tier offensive units and that quarterback decision-making contributed to the pressure. Defensive standout Tyler Scott recorded a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown. However, Silverfield expressed concern about explosive plays allowed by his defense, attributing the issues to communication breakdowns and tackling difficulties.
The kicking game proved inconsistent, with the team converting only 4-of-8 field goal attempts inside 50 yards. Projected starter Max Gilbert performed better, making 3-of-4 attempts. With the quarterback competition ongoing, Silverfield indicated that more evaluation during upcoming practice sessions would help determine the starter.
