Lego has launched its new Pokémon Smart Play Sets, which became available for purchase on August 1st. A recent hands-on demonstration revealed these interactive building sets to be engaging for players of all ages, even those without a strong interest in the Pokémon franchise. The collection features multiple options, with prices ranging from $19.99 to $119.99, offering flexibility for different budgets and preferences.
At the core of these sets is the Smart Brick, a technologically advanced 2×4 Lego piece embedded with sensors, microphones, speakers, LED lights, and other interactive components. When placed into Pokémon figures like Pikachu or Charmander, the Smart Brick enables the characters to emit charming sounds and interact with one another. Players can engage in various activities including training their creatures and participating in battle sequences where they can charge special abilities and compete against opponents. The interactive features extend beyond combat, with some sets including training stations and creative elements like a hidden bed where Pokémon can rest.
Prospective buyers should note that not all sets include the Smart Brick technology. Consumers must purchase at least one “All-In-One” set that includes the Smart Brick and wireless charger before adding compatible expansion sets to their collection. Fortunately, complete starter sets begin at $69.99, while additional compatible sets start at just $19.99. Six compatible expansion sets are currently available through Lego’s online store and Amazon, with additional options potentially arriving in the future.
