Formula 1 resumes from its summer break this weekend at Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix, marking the final time the circuit will host the sport. The event runs from August 21-23 and will feature a sprint race format, the fourth of the 2026 season. Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli currently leads the championship standings with a 50-point advantage over Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton, having secured six victories from eleven races so far. McLaren’s Lando Norris, the reigning world champion, claimed his first main race victory of the season at the Hungarian Grand Prix ahead of the break.
The Dutch Grand Prix returned to the F1 calendar in 2021 following a 36-year absence but has struggled financially despite consistently attracting capacity crowds. The 4.259-kilometer coastal track near the North Sea will now host its farewell event. Max Verstappen dominated the circuit after its return, winning the first three editions before McLaren ended his streak two years ago. Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri have since claimed victories at the venue.
Saturday’s 24-lap sprint race commences at 11:00 BST, with the main 72-lap grand prix starting at 14:00 on Sunday. Weather forecasts suggest cool conditions with temperatures between 18-20 degrees Celsius and potential light rain on Friday and Saturday, though Sunday’s race is expected to be dry. BBC coverage will be available across Sports Extra 3, BBC Sounds, and the BBC Sport website and app throughout the weekend.
