Central Illinois high school athletics officially kicked off their fall season on Monday with competitive action across boys’ soccer and girls’ volleyball. Teams throughout the region participated in the inaugural matches of the 2026 campaign, showcasing their preparation during the offseason.
In boys’ soccer, several programs demonstrated dominant performances. Newton overwhelmed Unity with a commanding 6-0 victory, while Bismarck-Henning-Rossville-Alvin posted an impressive 8-1 result against Clifton Central. Other notable wins included Normal U-High’s 4-0 shutout over Urbana, Iroquois West’s 7-0 victory against Judah Christian, and Decatur St. Teresa’s 6-0 triumph over Pana. Bloomington Central Catholic and Central also secured convincing wins to open their seasons.
Volleyball competition featured closely contested matches throughout the region. Arthur Okaw Christian edged St. Thomas More 2-1, while Centennial narrowly defeated Paxton-Buckley-Loda in a similar fashion. Several teams secured straight-set victories, including Unity Christian, McNamara, Fisher, and Leroy. Georgetown-Ridge Farm claimed a hard-fought 1-0 result in a five-set match against Judah Christian.
The opening night of competition sets the stage for what promises to be an active fall season for Central Illinois high school athletics programs.
