Two films have emerged as frontrunners for the 19th Asia Pacific Screen Awards, each securing three nominations. The nominations reflect significant international collaboration among filmmakers across the Asia Pacific region and beyond. “All of a Sudden” is a co-production involving France, Japan, Germany, and Belgium, while “Elephants in the Fog” represents partnerships between Nepal, Germany, Brazil, France, and Norway. Three additional films received two nominations each: “No Good Men,” “Guria,” and “9 Temples to Heaven.” The awards recognize achievements in screenwriting, cinematography, youth film, animated film, and documentary film categories alongside the major awards.
A notable trend in this year’s selections involves emerging filmmakers. According to the Academy, nearly 70 percent of directors whose films received nominations are presenting their first or second feature. This pattern is particularly pronounced in youth and animation categories, where all nominees in these divisions are first-time or early-career directors. The ceremony will be preceded by the Asia Pacific Screen Forum, running October 28-30, featuring sessions on financing, distribution, and cross-border collaboration.
