A significant leak has compromised Grand Theft Auto VI’s carefully orchestrated marketing campaign, just days before Rockstar Games plans to reveal exclusive gameplay on Netflix later this month. A hacking collective known as Cyberleek has claimed responsibility for distributing two gameplay videos and a complete map image across social media platforms. The group framed their actions as protest against industry practices including digital-only sales, physical media elimination, and limited offline functionality in modern games.
The leaked footage reveals several previously unconfirmed gameplay mechanics. Two clips show protagonist Jason participating in recreational basketball and engaging in an escalating confrontation with law enforcement following a traffic dispute. The accompanying map image displays the game’s Florida-inspired setting of Leonida alongside character locations, racing circuits, and a mysterious airstrip. Gaming journalists noted the material exhibits characteristics consistent with internal testing footage, though Rockstar has not authenticated the content. Detectable gameplay systems include a six-tier wanted level, an upgraded police awareness system tracking suspect details, stamina-based melee mechanics reminiscent of Red Dead Redemption 2, vehicle maintenance systems, and a basketball-linked stats progression.
The breach has generated substantial misinformation alongside genuine material. Artificial intelligence-generated videos and screenshots now circulate online intermixed with authentic footage, while recycled clips from a previous 2022 security incident are being repackaged as fresh leaks. Despite these complications, analysis suggests the current leaked build represents substantially more advanced development progress than earlier compromised versions. Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
