Jacksonville Jaguars General Manager James Gladstone offered an encouraging prognosis regarding offensive lineman Patrick Mekari’s recovery timeline following back surgery performed in mid-August. The team placed Mekari on injured reserve during the recent roster cutdown period, which requires him to sit out a minimum of four games.
Speaking to media on Tuesday, Gladstone suggested that Mekari could potentially be ready to return around the threshold of that four-game window. “I think he’d be quickly thereafter the threshold for return to get in,” the GM stated. However, the lineman would likely need an adjustment period before returning to game action, as a ramp-up phase typically follows the return from injury.
The possibility of having Mekari available in the first half of the season represents a positive development for Jacksonville’s offensive line. In Mekari’s absence, Ezra Cleveland has been taking snaps at right guard during recent practice sessions.
