Davis County girls tennis earned its first dual meet victory of the season on Tuesday at home against Fort Madison, securing a 7-2 result. The Mustangs demonstrated resilience throughout the competition, with all six varsity players competing in the lineup and contributing to the successful outcome.
Two comeback victories proved decisive in the overall result. In the most dramatic finish, Alexis Bragg clinched the dual for Davis County by winning the final five games of her No. 6 singles match against Avery Bousselot, finishing with a 9-7 victory. The Mustangs won five of six singles matches overall. In doubles competition, Olivia Robinson and Kolbi Haskell rallied from a 4-1 deficit to defeat their opponents 9-7 in the top doubles pairing.
Robinson was making her season debut after missing Davis County’s opening dual at Keokuk the previous week. Though she lost her singles match to start the day, she found her footing during the doubles competition as the match progressed. Head coach Tucker Henderson noted that having every player on the roster secure at least one victory would provide confidence moving forward in the season.
The Mustangs will continue their schedule Wednesday with a trip to Burlington-Notre Dame. Davis County now stands at 1-1 in dual meet competition.
