Fans of the iconic television series “Gilmore Girls” have reason to celebrate as an official documentary about the show is in development for HBO Max. The project will explore the making of the beloved family dramedy, which originally ran for seven seasons beginning in 2000 and became a cultural phenomenon that resonated across multiple generations of viewers.
The documentary will be directed by Bonni Cohen and presented through the creative lens of series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel Palladino, an executive producer on the original series. The film promises to provide insight into how the show achieved such widespread appeal by examining the contributions of the creative team, cast, and crew members who brought Stars Hollow to life.
Lauren Graham, who portrayed main character Lorelai Gilmore, will participate in the documentary alongside other key cast and crew members. The production will include exclusive materials not previously seen by audiences, including outtakes, behind-the-scenes footage, and script pages that offer a glimpse into the show’s creative process.
The documentary is being produced through a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television’s This Machine and Warner Horizon Unscripted Television. This marks the first authorized documentary project about the influential series, which originally aired on the WB network before concluding on the CW.
