A New York Giants assistant coach sustained facial injuries during Thursday’s practice after an unexpected collision with wide receiver Malik Nabers. The incident occurred during individual drills when the two miscommunicated their movements, resulting in Nabers’ helmet making contact with wide receivers coach Chad Hall’s face.
Nabers, who is working his way back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered last season, was wearing a red non-contact jersey to restrict his participation. While executing an arm-over release move, he struck Hall, splitting the coach’s lip. Giants medical personnel immediately provided treatment on the sideline, administering stitches to close the wound.
Despite the injury, Hall remained composed and continued his coaching duties for the remainder of practice. Head coach John Harbaugh explained the sequence of events to reporters, characterizing Hall as “a tough dude” for returning to work promptly after receiving stitches. Hall later joked to media that the anesthetic was beginning to wear off.
The collision occurred on a productive day for Nabers’ recovery, as he participated in team drills for the first time during this phase of training camp. The incident underscored the physical intensity that persists at practice, even during controlled drills designed to protect recovering players.
