Yael Trepy, a French forward playing for Italian Serie A club Cagliari, is currently hospitalized in intensive care following a swimming pool incident. The 20-year-old athlete experienced a near-drowning accident on Sunday at a pool located in Porto Cervo, in northern Sardinia, according to reports from Italian media outlets. Medical personnel placed him in an induced coma as part of his treatment.
Cagliari confirmed the hospitalization in an official statement, noting that Trepy is receiving care at a hospital in Sassari. The club stated it maintains close communication with medical professionals overseeing his recovery and has been in contact with his family members during this difficult time.
Trepy joined Cagliari’s youth development program in 2022 after playing for Union Sportive Creteil in Paris. The striker made eight appearances in Serie A competition during the most recent season, registering one goal. He featured in a Coppa Italia match just days before the incident, playing 54 minutes as Cagliari defeated Arezzo.
The club has requested privacy for the player and his family while requesting public patience as they await further medical updates on his condition.
