According to law enforcement accounts, the incident occurred in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape province, when Tete arrived at his home and was waiting for his gate to open. Two masked suspects armed with weapons ambushed him during this moment. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Tete achieved significant success during his boxing career, holding multiple prestigious world titles. He secured the WBF flyweight championship between 2007 and 2008, and later won the WBO bantamweight title, which he held during 2017 and again in 2019.
