A tragic incident has claimed the life of 25-year-old Quévin Castro, a former West Bromwich Albion midfielder, who collapsed during a friendly match in Portugal on Saturday morning. Castro was playing for Real SC against Estrela da Amadora when he suddenly lost consciousness early in the game.
Both clubs’ medical personnel immediately responded to the emergency, deploying a defibrillator in attempts to revive the player. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and continued resuscitation efforts, but Castro was ultimately pronounced deceased.
The Portuguese-English midfielder began his football career in England after relocating there at age 16 in 2017. He developed through the youth academies of Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion before moving between several clubs throughout his career in the country.
Castro had recently returned to his native Portugal this season, signing with Real SC to compete in the Campeonato de Portugal. His sudden death has shocked the football community and those who knew him throughout his career.
