CNN and Variety have announced a partnership to provide exclusive live coverage from the red carpet of the 78th Emmy Awards this fall. The collaboration builds on the success of their previous work together during awards season, which included Oscar red carpet programming and a special town hall event. The new pre-show broadcast will stream on September 14, beginning at 5 p.m. ET ahead of the main Emmy Awards ceremony.
Elizabeth Wagmeister from CNN and Ramin Setoodeh, co-president and co-editor-in-chief of Variety, will host the event, titled “CNN & Variety Red Carpet Live: TV’s Biggest Night.” The pair previously collaborated on similar coverage during the Academy Awards in March and bring extensive entertainment industry experience to their roles. Viewers will have access to exclusive interviews and coverage via CNN.com/watch and the CNN app for streaming subscribers.
The media outlets’ relationship extends beyond Emmy coverage. Their recent collaboration produced season 24 of the “Actors on Actors” series, which garnered significant viewership and contributed to new subscriptions for CNN’s streaming platform. The latest season featured prominent Emmy-nominated talent, including Mariska Hargitay, Jamie Lee Curtis, and several other industry figures. The Emmy Awards broadcast itself will air September 14 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
