Spanish distribution company Filmax has acquired international rights to “This Solitude,” marking the feature film directorial debut of Javier Giner, creator of the acclaimed Disney+ series “I, Addict.” The drama will be showcased to international buyers at the Toronto International Film Festival before its world premiere in the New Directors section at San Sebastián.
The film reunites Giner with International Emmy-winning actor Oriol Pla, who appeared in “I, Addict,” alongside actress Marina Salas. Set in Bilbao, the story centers on Leo and Lorea, former partners navigating life after their five-year relationship concludes. While Leo struggles with his father’s declining health and emotional withdrawal, Lorea confronts unstable employment and personal hardships as she attempts to move forward.
Filmax executives noted that Giner’s increased prominence, fueled by the success of “I, Addict” on Disney+, has generated substantial industry interest across multiple markets. The film, written by Giner alongside Luisa Matienzo, is produced by Miguel Torrente and Matienzo through production companies including Fuga de Cuerpos and Balance Media Entertainment. Filmax plans a Spanish theatrical release scheduled for October 30.
