Feedly, the leading independent RSS reader with 15 million users, has been dealing with significant technical difficulties over the past week that have rendered its web application nearly unusable for some customers. The performance problems have frustrated paying subscribers who rely on the platform to manage their news feeds efficiently.
The company’s troubles extend beyond the web experience. Users have reported that the mobile iOS application is not functioning properly, and Feedly discontinued its classic mobile app version without advance notice to existing users. These combined issues have prompted complaints about the company’s customer support responsiveness, with some users claiming their technical inquiries have gone unanswered.
Feedly’s leadership attributes the web slowdown to a specific software bug rather than complications from the company’s recent shift toward artificial intelligence and cybersecurity products. CEO Edwin Khodabakchian explained that the problem was connected to the “Mark as Read” feature on accounts with multiple folders, and stated that a fix was deployed on Friday. The company is still verifying whether the solution has resolved the issue for all affected users.
Despite Feedly’s growing focus on AI-driven threat intelligence services, Khodabakchian emphasized that the core RSS reader functionality remains a priority for the organization. He acknowledged the retired classic app but noted it had only several hundred active users before discontinuation.
