J.Crew is modernizing one of its most iconic pieces from the 1980s by enlisting content creator Emma Chamberlain to promote a contemporary reimagining of its classic rollneck sweater. The new Tiny Rollneck features a cropped silhouette and fitted cut compared to the original design that debuted in the retailer’s 1988 catalog, while maintaining the signature cotton construction. The updated version will be available in vibrant, eye-catching color options and launches on the J.Crew website on Wednesday, August 26.
The promotional campaign showcases Chamberlain in a visually distinctive setting that blends retro-futuristic elements with early-2000s fashion aesthetics and video game imagery. Director Ian Markell helmed the shoot, while Chamberlain’s longtime stylist collaborated with J.Crew’s creative leadership to develop the looks featured in the campaign.
This latest initiative represents part of a broader strategy by J.Crew to introduce its heritage pieces to younger consumers. The company has previously revived the rollneck through multiple campaigns and collaborations, including a recent project that partnered with five independent fashion labels to offer designer-inspired variations featuring distinctive embellishments and techniques.
