Entertainment icon Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is making a serious commitment to music. The actor recently unveiled a music video for “Your Dad,” a deeply personal track he co-wrote with Iam Tongi, the 2023 American Idol winner. The emotional ballad appears on the newly released album “Moana: Voices Across the Ocean,” which accompanies the recent live-action adaptation of the Disney film.
Johnson’s musical journey spans decades, beginning with his contribution to Wyclef Jean’s 2000 track and gaining wider recognition through his performance of “You’re Welcome” in the original animated Moana film. However, the actor views his latest endeavor as his most meaningful musical project to date. In an interview, Johnson explained that Tongi sent him a deeply moving composition about fatherhood and honoring one’s parents, which inspired him to pursue the collaboration.
Growing up in a Polynesian household filled with singing and cultural traditions, Johnson developed an early passion for music influenced by legends like Elvis, Willie Nelson, and George Jones. Though he acknowledged his limited songwriting experience, Johnson expressed genuine enthusiasm about exploring this creative direction. He worked alongside his wife Lauren Hashian and other producers on the album, which aims to celebrate Polynesian culture and heritage.
