Multiple television networks are planning special programming to honor the late Dolly Parton following her death at age 80. CBS will premiere “Dolly Parton – An American Icon,” a news special airing tonight from 10 to 11 p.m. ET/PT, with simultaneous streaming available on Paramount+. The broadcast will feature journalists Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil, and Anthony Mason presenting tributes to the iconic entertainer’s expansive career across music, television, film, and literature.
The CBS special will draw from the network’s extensive archive of interviews with Parton, including segments from a 2009 “60 Minutes” episode and a 2023 appearance on “Person-To-Person” with Norah O’Donnell. Additional commentary from renowned country music artists and those close to Parton will complement the retrospective. A CBS News correspondent will report live from Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
Beyond CBS’s tribute, sister networks CMT, CMT Music, and Equal Play on Pluto TV will broadcast Parton’s music videos throughout the next two days. CMT has also announced plans for a separate remembrance special at a future date and will air the 1989 film “Steel Magnolias,” in which Parton appeared, beginning later this week. The coordinated tributes across Paramount-owned networks reflect Parton’s significant cultural impact and enduring legacy in entertainment.
