Disneyland Paris is charting an ambitious expansion plan that extends well beyond its recently opened Frozen-themed land. Disney Imagineers revealed details at the D23 expo about an upcoming attraction centered on “The Lion King,” which will occupy a sprawling 30,000 square meter area designed to evoke an African savanna setting. The new land will feature multiple attractions, dining venues, retail shops and opportunities for guests to interact with characters, marking the first Disney park worldwide to dedicate an entire themed area exclusively to the classic 1994 film. Concept artwork showcased an animatronic rendition of the villain Scar, who will play a central role in recreating the film’s most iconic confrontation scene.
While “The Lion King” land remains under construction with no confirmed opening date announced, Disneyland Paris has lined up several interim attractions for visitors. The “Up”-inspired Wilderness Explorers Sky Swings will debut next year, while 2028 will bring significant changes to the resort’s Space Mountain ride. The attraction will undergo a complete re-theming to return to its original 1995 concept, “From the Earth to the Moon,” inspired by Jules Verne’s classic novel. This transformation will replace the current “Star Wars” theme that has defined the ride for the past decade, complete with a remastered original soundtrack.
The same year will also introduce a brand-new daytime parade, the first since 2017. Featuring Mickey Mouse and an ensemble of characters from films including “Aladdin,” “The Princess and the Frog,” “Rapunzel” and “Coco,” the parade will showcase eight newly designed floats. Development of the production required over 10,000 hours of research and technical work, along with 225 distinct costume, wig and makeup sketches.
