Disney+ has secured streaming distribution rights for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship across more than 140 territories worldwide. This major agreement represents a significant shift in how the electric vehicle racing league will reach audiences globally, establishing a consistent platform for the sport’s championship events. The deal allows Formula E to maintain its existing local television partnerships in key markets while simultaneously expanding its digital presence through Disney’s expansive streaming platform.
In the United States, Formula E races will be available on ESPN Select, Disney’s sports streaming service. Formula E leadership emphasized that the partnership provides an ideal balance, allowing the league to preserve regional broadcast agreements while leveraging Disney’s international reach and storytelling capabilities to attract new audiences. The championship, which began in 2014, is preparing for significant growth with the introduction of its next-generation GEN4 vehicle, an advanced electric racing car capable of reaching 60 mph in approximately 1.8 seconds.
The upcoming 2026-27 season will feature 21 races across 13 locations, beginning in Saudi Arabia in December and concluding in Tokyo in July. Industry observers note that Disney’s investment in live sporting events reflects broader streaming sector trends, as premium sports content continues to drive subscriber engagement and retention. Formula E’s commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility aligns with Disney’s brand values, further solidifying the partnership as both companies prepare for the championship’s next competitive era.
