Actor Randy Quaid, who starred in the original “Days of Thunder,” has publicly criticized the casting of Anne Hathaway in the upcoming sequel alongside Tom Cruise. Quaid took to social media to express his disapproval, arguing that the production should bring back Nicole Kidman, who played the female lead in the 1986 racing drama.
In his posts, Quaid made several contentious claims about Hathaway’s suitability for the role. He suggested that her political views made her incompatible with the film’s target audience and questioned her physical appearance for the part. Quaid also claimed that casting Kidman would be a stronger choice for the film’s commercial appeal.
Hathaway joins Cruise in the sequel, which Paramount has scheduled for theatrical release in June 2028, nearly 40 years after the original film. The project was filmed for Imax screens. Representatives for both Paramount and Hathaway have not publicly responded to Quaid’s statements. The original film featured Quaid as a racing team owner alongside Robert Duvall and Cary Elwes, with Tony Scott directing.
