Disney’s D23 expo delivered a comprehensive look at the studio’s upcoming slate, with announcements spanning film and television releases through 2029. The event featured major casting reveals, first looks at animated sequels, and trailers for highly anticipated projects across Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars divisions.
Pixar dominated the film announcements with multiple projects in development. The studio revealed that The Incredibles 3 will shift creative direction with Peter Sohn directing instead of returning filmmaker Brad Bird, while focusing on siblings Violet and Dash. Additional Pixar productions showcased included Gatto, a Venice-set crime story featuring Mark Ruffalo as a street cat, Ghost Market, the studio’s first ghost-themed film, and Coco 2, which will see teenage Miguel return to the Land of the Dead. Disney Animation also announced Clay, featuring Kieran Culkin, alongside live-action remakes including Tangled and Lilo and Stitch 2.
Marvel generated significant excitement with its X-Men casting announcement, bringing together Christopher Abbott, Adam Driver, and Sadie Sink among others for a May 2028 release. The studio also presented new footage from Avengers: Doomsday, highlighting Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doctor Doom. Star Wars fans received their first trailer for Starfighter, starring Ryan Gosling as a pilot mentoring a young enthusiast.
Television announcements included Kingdom Hearts anime adaptation for Disney+, Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3, VisionQuest featuring Paul Bettany and James Spader, and Ahsoka Season 2. Disney also revealed a live-action miniseries adaptation of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit helmed by Jon Favreau.
