A24 has unveiled a new trailer for “Primetime,” an upcoming film that dramatizes the controversial “To Catch a Predator” television phenomenon. The movie stars Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen, the host of the real-world sting operation that became a cultural phenomenon when it transitioned from a “Dateline NBC” segment to its own primetime television program.
The trailer showcases the film’s exploration of Hansen’s increasingly obsessive mission to capture what he calls “a whale” following the show’s expansion to prime time. Pattinson’s character expresses confidence in the venture, declaring it will exceed the popularity of the television phenomenon “Lost.” Actor Skyler Gisondo portrays a performer cast to pose as a teenage boy in the sting operations designed to catch potential offenders online.
The film features an ensemble cast including Merritt Wever, Anna Faris, and Bokeem Woodbine, while musician Phoebe Bridgers makes her major film debut as a member of the Perverted Justice team. Directed by Lance Oppenheim, “Primetime” arrives in theaters on September 25.
