CBS has greenlit a pilot for the comedy series “Hilda! (In Lights!),” which centers on a septuagenarian woman relocating to New York City with aspirations of performing on Broadway. The single-camera project comes from writer and executive producer Abbey Caldwell, whose three scripts were previously announced as being in development at the studio during April.
The show’s premise follows the titular character, a 70-year-old from Nebraska with no theatrical background, as she pursues her lifelong dream of starring on stage. According to the show’s description, Hilda embodies the classic archetype of an optimistic small-town resident chasing big-city success, with the unconventional twist being her advanced age and complete lack of experience in the entertainment industry.
Caldwell’s non-writing executive producers on the project include Will Graham, Max Linsky, and Tonia Davis through Invitation Media. CBS Studios is producing the comedy, which is being developed for potential inclusion in the 2027-2028 television season.
