Abnormal Studios, a Kuala Lumpur-based genre distributor, has secured worldwide sales rights for “Ali & Ben’s Spicy Meats,” a Malaysian black comedy-horror film directed by brothers Iskander and Feisal Azizuddin. The studio plans to present the title at the Asian Contents & Film Market in Busan this October, coinciding with the Busan International Film Festival.
The film follows two struggling friends who discover an unexpectedly successful spicy beef jerky recipe with a sinister secret ingredient. As their business flourishes, the protagonists find their ethical boundaries increasingly tested. Actor Amir Nafis leads the cast, supported by Syazani Zikry and Bella Imani, while hand-drawn illustrations by Gladys Lee and Qistina Ishak serve as visual storytelling elements throughout the narrative.
Director Feisal Azizuddin explained that the film examines how desperation influences ordinary people and how ambition can mask its true nature. The project tackles cannibalism as both a literal premise and social commentary, employing explicit violence, sexuality, and dark humor as deliberate artistic choices rather than gratuitous elements. This represents the ninth independent feature from Feisk Productions and reflects a more transgressive approach within contemporary Malaysian independent cinema.
Abnormal Studios, a subsidiary of Westec Media Limited, distributes approximately 100 titles annually across Southeast Asia and neighboring regions. Recent commercial successes include “How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies” and “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In.”
