Director Abinash Bikram Shah’s “Elephants in the Fog” has secured distribution agreements across ten territories following its recognition at Cannes, where it won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize. The film will be handled by MetFilm Distribution in the United Kingdom, Filmin in Spain, Vedette in the Benelux region, Trigon in Switzerland, and Lev Cinema in Israel, among other regional distributors. Additional deals have been finalized in Australia, India, Indonesia, and the Philippines, with an inflight arrangement also confirmed.
The accolade-winning production has been officially selected as Nepal’s submission for the international feature category at the Academy Awards. The film is currently being showcased at the Toronto Film Festival and has garnered significant recognition at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, earning nominations for best film, best director, and best performance.
The narrative centers on Pirati, a member of a Kinnar community residing in a forested Nepalese village, who undertakes an investigation into her daughter’s mysterious disappearance during nighttime efforts to protect the community from wild elephants. Previously confirmed distribution deals in France, Germany, Austria, and Brazil supplement the newly announced agreements, while negotiations continue for North American distribution rights and a pan-Latin America deal.
