Washington Nationals pitcher Cade Cavalli delivered an outstanding performance Wednesday night as the team blanked the Texas Rangers 6-0 at Globe Life Field. The right-hander recorded 11 strikeouts while pitching six innings, marking his second consecutive game with double-digit strikeouts. Cavalli allowed only three singles and one walk while throwing 58 strikes out of 84 total pitches, also retiring the final 11 batters he faced.
Cavalli’s dominant outing came just six days after a similarly impressive showing against the Chicago Cubs, when he struck out 10 batters over eight scoreless innings. His recent success has elevated his record to 7-1 in his last 10 starts. The Nationals’ offense provided ample run support, with José Tena launching a solo home run in the third inning and Andrés Chaparro hitting a three-run homer measuring 415 feet in the seventh. Washington’s offense continues to lead Major League Baseball with 182 home runs on the season.
The victory halted a difficult stretch for Washington, which had lost four straight games and six of its previous seven. Relievers Will Dion, Max Kranick, and Jake Bird each contributed an inning to complete the shutout. Texas fell out of contention for the American League’s third wild card spot following the loss, dropping to 62-65 on the season.
