The 31st Busan International Film Festival has announced its Vision section programming, featuring a total of 23 independent films from Korea and across Asia. The curated selection divides into two components: 12 titles designated as Vision-Korea and 11 selections for Vision-Asia. This dedicated programming track evolved from its predecessor, Korean Cinema Today – Vision, which transitioned into an expanded continental initiative last year to showcase diverse filmmaking talent throughout the region.
The Vision-Korea lineup balances established filmmakers with emerging voices. Several returning directors bring previous festival success to this year’s selections, including Kim Miyoung, Park Songyeol, and Sohn Hyun-lok, all of whom have earned recognition at Busan in recent years. The slate also includes feature debuts and newer directorial voices, spanning multiple genres from live-action drama to animated works, with stories exploring themes of family, memory, and personal transformation.
Vision-Asia represents filmmakers from 10 different countries and regions, reflecting the program’s commitment to continental diversity. The international selection features both directorial debuts and established artists making their first feature-length works, including entries from Vietnam, Japan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Mongolia, Iran, Thailand, India, and Kazakhstan. The festival will present all selections during its run from October 6-15 at the Busan Cinema Center, with 19 awards distributed across both Vision categories.
