The Detroit Tigers have halted the rehabilitation assignment of left-handed relief pitcher Brant Hurter due to concerns with his mechanics. Hurter has been sidelined since May 23 following a lumbar spine injury. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch announced on Friday that the team pulled the pitcher from his rehab to reassess movement patterns and ensure full recovery before returning to competitive play. Under league rules, Hurter must remain inactive for at least seven days, though the organization does not plan to completely shut down his throwing activities during this pause.
In other injury updates, starting pitcher Jack Flaherty is progressing well in his recovery from a right flexor injury sustained in late July. Hinch indicated that Flaherty may take the mound for a simulated game this weekend while the team is in Kansas City, marking an encouraging step in his rehabilitation process. Meanwhile, outfielder Riley Greene, who has been dealing with a right hamstring strain, is expected to rejoin the team in Detroit during the upcoming homestand beginning Monday against Tampa Bay, with the manager noting positive progress in his recovery.
The Tigers continue monitoring several other injured players. Outfielder Kerry Carpenter, recovering from left foot plantar fasciitis, has transferred his rehab to Lakeland, Florida, where he will gradually increase his baseball activities. Additionally, outfielder Parker Meadows, who fractured his arm in April, remains limited in his batting drills, though the team has not ruled out a return before season’s end.
